What to Expect
Chiropractic care following an injury is like building a house – certain things have to happen in a particular order in order for everything to stand strong and work correctly. When building a house, if you tried to put up your walls before you had a solid foundation, your walls would be weak and eventually collapse. If you tried to put on your roof before the walls were ready, you would run into the same problem. The same is true for your body. Your body has to go through a particular plan of care in order to repair itself correctly and fully. There are three general phases of chiropractic care . . .
Phase 1: Relief Care – If you are in pain when you come into our office, the first objective is to help you feel better.Depending on the severity of your problem, it is typical to need care 2-3 times per week for 4-8 weeks.
Phase 2: Corrective/Restorative Care – During the corrective care phase, muscles and other tissues are allowed to heal more completely, thereby helping prevent injury. It is typical to need care 4-8 times per month for 2-4 months, depending on your overall health and the severity of your problem.
Phase 3: Wellness Care – Once your body has fully healed, it is important to come in for periodic adjustments to avoid problems in the future.Usually, this only requires a quick periodic visit to the chiropractor, based on your lifestyle and goals.
Upon entering our office, our receptionist will greet you and welcome you as a member of our family. We will request you fill out our patient forms. The paperwork provides us with general information about you and your condition.
Next you will have a consultation with the doctor to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, as well as potential treatment options. Your first visit is designed for the doctor to learn more about you, your condition and your expectations to determine whether chiropractic care will you meet your goals.
After your consultation, the doctor will perform a complete chiropractic examination testing your reflexes, your ability to turn and bend as well as other standard neurologic, orthopedic, postural, and physical examinations. Nothing will be done in our office without your consent.
Your specific condition may require us to refer you to obtain x-rays. X-rays help us rule out more serious conditions or assist us in developing the most effective treatment plan for you. Most people are amazed once they see their x-rays and can often immediately identify their own misalignments and degeneration themselves.
Once all the information and examinations have been performed, the doctor will give you a report of findings to answer the three most popular questions:
- Can you help me?
- What do you recommend that I do to get better?
- How much is it going to cost?
- What is my overall treatment plan?
After discussing with you your history and your goals, examining your spine and reviewing any x-rays or tests, the doctor will discuss recommendations with you. If you have a condition that requires care with other providers, the doctor will tell you. If the doctor believes we can help you, we will recommend treatment and a wellness program.
Patients will generally be provided with their first treatment at the conclusion of the appointment. This may include spinal adjustments, physiotherapies, and/or soft tissue therapies. Your treatment is interactive, giving you the opportunity to express any concerns you have about the style of adjustment. We will find the treatment you are most comfortable with.
Prior to leaving, patients will be instructed on a wellness program to be conducted at home. If you are in pain when you first come into our office this may include ice or heat application instructions, avoidance of certain activities or positions, as well as home exercises and/or stretches. If you desire an overall wellness lifestyle, our wellness team will work with you to create good habits and routines that support your success. Every body is unique and different and therefore everyone requires a unique and customized wellness plan. The foundation of our overall wellness lifestyle is maintaining healthy posture and good spinal alignment, eating a healthy diet, taking supplements, keeping your weight under control and stress relief.
The primary goal of chiropractic care is to reduce our patient’s symptoms. This might require multiple visits per week.
There is a common misconception that if one does not experience any pain, then nothing is wrong and you are okay. Sadly, pain isn’t a good indicator of your health. Furthermore, pain and other signs usually appear after a condition has worsened. Pain is usually the last thing that becomes apparent despite any condition you might consider whether it be stress, spinal stiffness/misalignment, heart disease, diabetes or cancer. Fortunately, pain is the first symptom to vanish when you begin chiropractic care, though the underlying condition doesn’t readily go away.
Many chiropractors believe that getting rid of symptoms is the simplest part of patient care. However, the chances of the symptoms returning are much higher if all the chiropractor does is temporarily relieve the pain and then stop care.
Even if the symptoms disappear, necessary precautions remain and you should still receive treatments as a preventative measure. The restorative/corrective phase of care does not mean you have to receive adjustments as often as the original phase. You may begin stretches and exercises at home or in our office to assist in speeding up your healing.
Mild flare-ups are normal and should not be a cause for concern. Occasional flare-ups typically appear because one’s body is still in a phase of healing. Corrective care can last anywhere from a few months to a couple of years depending on the severity of a patient’s condition.
Regular chiropractic treatments can help insure your symptoms lesson and your problems don’t come back, keeping your body functioning at its prime level.
Chiropractic treatments maintained on a consistent basis are necessary to ensure proper functioning of your skeletal system just like eating healthfully and exercising are necessary to maintain a balanced lifestyle. Once chiropractic treatments become a consistent part of your lifestyle, you can avoid much of the pain and suffering so many others endure without the proper care and you will once again be able to participate in more activities you enjoy on a more frequent basis.

I have had issues with headaches and back pain for many years.
"I have had issues with headaches and back pain for many years. In addition, I have had problems with general pain issues. I had been treated by two other chiropractors, a physical therapist and a medical doctor. I would get a bit better but then improvement stopped. I had heard of Dr. Rosenfeld so I decided to make an appointment. I have to honestly say that I have been feeling much better in a consistent manner. The headaches are now rare and my body just feels better!"
I experienced miraculous results after visiting Dr. Rosenfeld.
"My back for no apparent reason was so painful. I couldn't move. After two days in bed a friend recommended I see Dr. Rosenfeld. I could barely drive or sit when I came in. This had happened several times in the past twenty years. A medical doctor had given me muscle relaxers only. They weren't all that helpful but over time and with restricting activities I got better. I experienced miraculous results after visiting Dr. Rosenfeld. I am able to do more than before in movement and strength with no pain, my whole outlook each day is more positive and I feel more energized."
Dr. Iris is a wonderful and caring doctor.
"Dr. Iris is a wonderful and caring doctor. I have been fortunate enough to be her patient since 2012, when my large toddler was causing havoc on my back. She was easily able to get me out of pain and back to functioning order and has been doing so ever since.
She has an amazing intuition when it comes to the body. She is able to find the little spots that are out of alignment, even if I'm not able to locate them myself, and put them back where they belong.
She is completely committed to her patient's well being and will do everything in her power to make you well, body and mind!"
Dr. Rosenfeld is a very loving and generous doctor.
"Dr. Rosenfeld is a very loving and generous doctor. I highly recommend her. She is always studying and learning new ways to help her clients. Dr. Rosenfeld has a very long list of techniques that she can offer to help. Dr. Rosenfeld is high energy and fun and an inspiration. I am grateful that my 19 yo son is her patient since I want him to meet motivated professionals."
I've never quite felt that before any health practitioner that I can remember
"Just want say thank you for the extraordinary commitment I feel from you to my getting better. I've never quite felt that before any health practitioner that I can remember."
I chose Dr. Rosenfeld to help me continue on the road to good health.
"I had just moved to this area. I had been seeing another chiropractor on a regular basis to help with knee problems and other aches and pains that cropped up. After I moved I chose Dr. Rosenfeld to help me continue on the road to good health. I had also received physical therapy for my knee. Physical therapy worked well but only focused on my knee. Chiropractic treats my whole body. Other areas of my body need adjusting to help keep my knee functioning well. I found Dr. Rosenfeld through the yellow pages. I am now in my 5th year of chiropractic care and I wonder how I got along without it in the past. My knee is doing well and I am continuing to run."
Her patients come first there is no question about that.
"I have known Dr. Iris for over 15 years & in all that time she has never wavered from being not only a professional in her field, but treating you like a friend. She has always taken good care of me & made time to see me when I've needed her care. She is always on a quest to learn more & educate her patients so they can lead healthy lives. Her patients come first there is no question about that."
After seeing Dr. Rosenfeld, I have no pain in my neck and great mobility.
"I first came to the office in 07/07. I came to the office because of pain in my neck and shoulders that I have had on and off for years. I also had very limited mobility. In the past I have been treated by other chiropractors with only temporary relief. We changed insurance plans and after much research I called Dr. Rosenfeld. After seeing Dr. Rosenfeld, I have no pain in my neck and great mobility. There is still some aching in the shoulder, but the mobility is much improved."
I was really impressed with the advanced equipment and techniques
"In April of 2008 I was struck by another car while driving and felt my neck snap and muscles in my upper body pull and tear. When I woke up the next day I had a migraine and was so stiff I could not walk. Dr. Iris saw me immediately and began working on me. I was really impressed with the advanced equipment and techniques she uses on accident victims. She eliminated my headache in the first visit and got me walking without pain quickly. I would never see or recommend another chiropractor as long as Dr. Iris is still practicing. She is such a wonderful person and talented professional."
Dr. Rosenfeld has given me lasting relief from pain
"In 1982 I was catapulted from a motorcycle causing whiplash, neck and low back injuries. Many years of an untreated condition and compression created much pain, discomfort and subluxation. After seeing another chiropractor for 15 years it was time for a change. During those 15 years I had many visits and physical therapy that gave me temporary pain relief and muscle toning and strenuously. Temporary relief. I was referred to Dr. Rosenfeld by Barbara Anderson who is a Rolfing therapist. Dr. Rosenfeld has given me lasting relief from pain and the ability to maintain a longer adjustment much and I have much gratitude and appreciation!"
